Playing word games.

For us, playing word games such as Spelling Bee, Words With Friends or Scrabble almost always turns up a candidate or two worthy of inclusion on a list of names for a company or product, or for a quick pop over to whois.com to see if, fingers crossed, a URL might be available. Most name inspirations come from a more formal exploration that can involve looking at word roots, etymologies, symbolism and more, but when you’re “in the naming zone” inspirations can come from almost anywhere. Board games are only one source. Typos, children’s imperfectly glorious and inventive use language, a mis-read sign, product names on the supermarket shelf and, yes, even dreams. We like to say that naming is one of the few occupations where you’re paid even to sleep.
